Recently I started an internship in an agency providing mainly SEO services to help businesses with their growth, as an IT Engineer, I never took SEO seriously and for me, it was a craft of the past, as in the today's age, all the traffic is brought in using paid media, but I am wrong?

First of all

What is SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization and it’s the practice of influencing some of the results returned by Google when a keyword is searched.
In other words, SEO is increasing the quality and quantity of website traffic from search engines to a website or web page. SEO focuses on unpaid traffic (also known as “natural” or “organic” results) rather than paid or direct traffic. Unpaid traffic can come from various sources, including image and video searches, academic and news searches, and industry-specific vertical search engines.
SEO considers how search engines work, the computer-programmed algorithms that govern search engine behavior, what people search for, the actual search terms or keywords typed into search engines, and which search engines are preferred by their targeted audience as an Internet marketing strategy.
SEO is done because websites that rank higher on search engine results pages (SERP) receive more visitors. These visitors may then be converted into customers.

What SEO can do

  • Attract searchers who are looking for a specific piece of content or product.
  • Influence how a brand appears in search results.
  • Direct searchers to queries.

What SEO can’t do

  • Expand your search.
  • Create a Brand.
  • Convert customers directly.
  • Work overnight.

So if your content is being searched for in Google, you can use the power of SEO to rank higher and drive more traffic to your website, blog, or store, but it’s here where the SEO begins to fade away, because having a good ranking in a specific niche or keywords, but having a bad quality website won’t make any conversion.
The customer is looking for value and quality content, and in nowadays the web is full of scam and irrelevant website, therefore the quality of the website and a good SEO strategy works hand in hand.

Is SEO still worth it in 2022?

Yes and No, let me explain.

No

It won’t work if:

  • No one is searching for your content.
  • There is no demand for your products.
  • Bad quality website.
  • Not matching the intent of the searcher/musketeer.
  • You are competing with dominant brands in their field of expertise.
  • Not providing any value.

Yes

SEO can do miracles if:

  • There is high demand for your content or products.
  • The market you are in constantly growing.
  • There are no dominant brands or monopolies in your field.
  • You are providing high value and quality to your visitors.
  • Providing free information in exchange for mail addresses to keep long-term customers.
  • Your brand is well presented and matches your customer expectations.

Conclusion

I am still a fresh SEO Intern with little to no knowledge comparing myself to my colleagues and the experts in the field, but the things I have learned so far with the help of my co-workers and little research on the web (thankfully all learning materials is provided for free on the web), I can say the SEO is here to stay forever, because every searcher's journey starts with a search on Google, and by having the right SEO strategy paired with good user experience, the SEO can keep visitors coming in for a long period of time without any additional work.
